Clements Student Fellows
Clements Student Fellows study history, strategy, and statecraft at The University of Texas at Austin while preparing for careers in scholarship, public service, and the profession of arms. Fellowship programs support students and early-career scholars from the undergraduate level through the postdoctoral year.
Undergraduate Fellows
The Clements Center Undergraduate Fellows Program supports students interested in national security careers through reading groups, meetings with distinguished scholars and policy leaders, and professional mentorship.
Graduate Fellows
The Clements Graduate Fellows Program brings together doctoral students in history, political science, area studies, and public affairs. Fellows meet over breakfast with visiting scholars to discuss their careers and research, and over lunch to give feedback on one another's work.
Predoctoral Fellows
The Clements Center offers predoctoral fellowships to advanced Ph.D. students, who spend a year in Austin completing their dissertations. Applicants from all disciplines whose research bears on foreign and defense policy, intelligence, or international security are welcome; preference goes to doctoral candidates in history or those whose research draws on historical methods.
Postdoctoral Fellows
The Clements Center offers postdoctoral fellowships to recent Ph.D. recipients. Fellows spend the substantial portion of their time on their own research and writing projects while participating in the Center's programs and drawing on the academic resources of UT Austin.
Resident Military Fellows
Resident Military Fellows are active-duty officers who spend a period in residence at the Clements Center, pursuing study and research while contributing their operational experience to the Center's programs and its students.
Undergraduate Military Fellows
Undergraduate Military Fellows are active-duty and veteran service members completing undergraduate degrees at UT Austin while participating in the Center's programs.
Defense Tech Fellows
The Defense Tech Fellows Program, launched in 2026, connects students pursuing a degree or minor in a STEM-related field to the defense technology community in Austin and beyond.
