Jarrett Huber
Jarrett is a first-year Ph.D. Student in the Department of History at UT Austin. His research focuses on the Portuguese Empire in the Cold War, decolonization conflicts, and U.S. foreign relations. Jarrett completed his B.A. (2021) and M.A. (2023) in History at Purdue University. He completed a master’s thesis analyzing Portuguese willingness to join in efforts toward European Integration led by the United States to illicitly mobilize the material and capital gains from programs such as the Marshall Plan and NATO towards the defense of their colonies in Africa, India, China, and the Indonesian archipelago. Along with strategic and material analysis of imperial modernization, Jarrett hopes to undertake research that analyzes the long-term implications of American policy-making regarding armed struggle in Portugal’s colonies across modern-day Lusofonia.
