Ryan Van Wie
Ryan Van Wie is a PhD Student in the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin. He is a U.S. Army Goodpaster Scholar and Infantry Officer with overseas service in Afghanistan, Jordan, Romania, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and Finland. Ryan previously served as an instructor and assistant professor of international affairs at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. He holds a BS from USMA and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Ryan broadly studies how emerging technology and a changing balance of power impact conventional deterrence. Specifically, he is interested in how rapid reinforcement underpins contemporary US deterrence efforts. Ryan’s research has appeared in Journal of Conflict Resolution, Small Wars and Insurgencies, Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs, War on the Rocks, Military Review, and The Brookings Institute.
