The Clements Center received 50 applications for its first annual Summer Seminar in History and Statecraft in Beaver Creek, CO and from that group selected the following 17 participants:

On Monday, March 3, the Clements Center for History, Strategy & Statecraft and the Strauss Center for International Security and Law welcomed author Tom Ricks to give a talk on his book entitled, The Generals: American Military Command from WWII to Today.

Mark Lawrence, Clements Center Director of Graduate Studies, published The Vietnam War: An International History in Documents (Oxford University Press) on February 28, 2014.

Clements Center Senior Fellow Frank Gavin and Director of Graduate Studies Mark A. Lawrence are co-editors of a newly published volume, Beyond the Cold War: Lyndon Johnson and the New Global Challenges of the 1960s (Oxford University Press, January 2014).

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger spoke about Bill Clements in a video prepared for the Clements Center’s inaugural gala on November 21, 2013.

The Clements Center for History, Strategy and Statecraft hosted its inaugural gala on November 21st, 2013 at the University of Texas. Over 300 friends and guests attended the event to commemorate the launch of the historic center.

The Clements Center, in partnership with King’s College London, convened its first conference in early-November at the University of Texas at Austin.  Participants from all over the U.S. and U.K. attended the event titled “Diplomacy, Alliances and War: Anglo-American Perspectives on History and Strategy in the September 11th Era.”  

Clements Center Post-Doctoral Fellow Steele Brand will offer an undergraduate course in Spring 2014 through UT’s Department of History.

In September, Clements Center Director Will Inboden and incoming Strauss Center Director Bobby Chesney led a team of scholars in a workshop involving a number of senior officials from the National Security Agency at the agency’s headquarters in Ft. Meade, Maryland.

This year, the University of Texas at Austin announced the establishment of the William P. Clements Jr. Center for History, Strategy and Statecraft. The Center honors the legacy of former Texas Governor Bill Clements, who served as Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1973-1977.

The Clements Center is hosting an upcoming lecture series “Strategic Insights from the Ancient World,” to be held during the 2013-14 academic year.

The Clements Center co-sponsored a symposium on Friday, September 6th titled “Troubled Waters: East Asia’s Contemporary Territorial Disputes” in the Avaya Auditorium at UT.

The Clements Center’s Executive Director William Inboden appeared on Good Day Austin to discuss the President’s response to the conflict in Syria.

The Graduate Fellows Program, spearheaded by the Clements Center’s Director of Graduate Studies Mark Lawrence, is designed to support distinguished doctoral students enrolled in the UT history department, government department, and LBJ School.

The Clements Center for History, Strategy, and Statecraft is pleased to announce that it has funded eight UT graduate students to take part in summer internships across the world.
