As the nation commemorates the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this week amid increasing threats from terrorist groups abroad, the Clements Center for History, Strategy and Statecraft and the Strauss Center for International Security and Law at The University of Texas at Austin will host a first-of-its-kind conference featuring America’s most senior intelligence and counterterrorism leaders.

“This summer I had the opportunity to intern for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. Working within the Public Diplomacy Office I was involved mainly with the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), a presidential initiative that aims to promote cooperation and solidarity among youth living in the ten ASEAN countries.

Clements Center and Marine Corps Command and Staff College Partnership

In April, the Clements Center partnered with the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia for a major policy exercise on security challenges in SouthEast Asia. Over 350 military officers and civilian policymakers participated in the two week simulation, titled “Exercise Nine Innings.”

William Inboden, Clements Center Executive Director and Distinguished Scholar at the Strauss Center, said: “With the death of Ambassador Strauss, we have lost a great Longhorn, a great Texan, and a great American.”
