The Clements-Strauss Intelligence Studies Project (ISP) at The University of Texas at Austin invites undergraduate and graduate students to submit original research for the 12th annual Bobby R. Inman Award, one of the most prestigious student honors in the field of intelligence studies. The winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000, with two semifinalists each awarded $2,500. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM CST.

The Inman Award recognizes outstanding unpublished scholarship on topics related to intelligence and national security. The competition is open to students currently enrolled in degree programs at accredited U.S. colleges and universities during the 2025–26 academic year. For submission requirements and a list of previous winners, visit the award page.

The award honors more than six decades of distinguished public service by Admiral Bobby R. Inman, U.S. Navy (Ret.). Admiral Inman has held some of the most consequential leadership positions in American intelligence and defense, serving as Director of Naval Intelligence, Vice-Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Director of the National Security Agency, and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. He continues to serve as an advisor and mentor to UT students, faculty, and current government officials.

ISP was established at UT Austin in 2013 as a joint venture of the Strauss Center for International Security and Law, the Clements Center for National Security, and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Its mission is to advance public understanding of intelligence activities and institutions through research, courses, and events that bring practitioners together with scholars, students, and the broader public.
