Clements Center Remembers Former Board Member Tom Luce
Jul 27, 2026
Tom Luce, a Dallas attorney and one of Texas’s most influential civic leaders, passed away over the weekend. Luce was a former Clements Center Board member, and his work spanned public education reform, state government, and national policy. He advised Ross Perot Sr. for decades, served as chief of staff of the Texas Select Committee on Public Education, and was appointed Assistant Secretary of Education by President George W. Bush.
In 2016 he founded Texas 2036, a nonpartisan organization built on the conviction that Texans could reason together from shared data toward shared solutions. His conviction that hard problems reward patient, nonpartisan work, is one the Clements Center shares. We extend our condolences to his family and to his colleagues across Texas.
