Clements Center Postdoctoral Fellow Daniel Chardell Appointed Assistant Professor at U.S. Naval Academy

The United States Naval Academy has appointed Daniel Chardell, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Clements Center’s 2025–2026 class, as Assistant Professor of History. He will specialize in post-1945 U.S. foreign relations.

Chardell’s scholarship examines U.S. foreign relations, the Middle East, and world order. His dissertation draws on archival research in Arabic and English, using the Gulf War as a lens to explore competing American and Arab visions of sovereignty and international order at the dawn of the post-Cold War era. The first draft of his book manuscript, under contract with Harvard University Press, is currently under peer review.

Before joining the Clements Center, Chardell earned his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. Additionally, he held a Henry Chauncey ’57 Postdoctoral Fellowship at Yale University’s Jackson School of Global Affairs, an America in the World Consortium Predoctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a research associate position at the Council on Foreign Relations.
