Dr. Marina K. Smith (née Alexandrova) is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Departments of European and Eurasian Studies and Religious Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. She recently served as Associate Director of the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES). Dr. Smith’s work has appeared in scholarly volumes and journals, including The Russian ReviewExperiment: A Journal of Russian Culture, and Journal of Global Intellectual History. 

Her research and teaching focus on the cultural history of Russia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, new religious movements including Theosophy, and U.S.-Russia relations. Dr. Smith’s monograph Madame Blavatsky’s India: In Search of Āryāvarta, which examines how Theosophical thought influenced intellectual currents in Europe and the United States, is under contract with Oxford University Press.
