Angelica Martinez

Angelica Martinez is the Associate Director of the William P. Clements, Jr. Center for National Security at the University of Texas-Austin. She holds a PhD from George Mason University and an MA from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, specializing in conflict, strategy, and the implications of prolonged military occupation. During her 25-year military career in the U.S. Army, she taught International Relations and Comparative Politics at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served a tour working directly for the Superintendent. 

After completing her doctorate, Angelica served three years as the Director of Strategy, Plans, and Assessments for the U.S. Security Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, Israel.  She also served as the Chief of Plans and Policy for the NATO Allied Land Command in Izmir, Turkey and two combat tours in Iraq. Most recently and before military retirement, she served as Chief of the Commander’s Action Group for the U.S. Southern Command’s Combatant Commander. She also holds an MA in Military Art and Sciences from the U.S. Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and a BA in International Relations from the Virginia Military Institute.
