Carl Forsberg

Carl Forsberg is a PhD candidate in the Department of History, a Fellow at the Clements Center for National Security, and a Harrington Graduate Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also a 2018-2019 Minerva/ Jennings Randolph Scholar at the United States Institute of Peace. His dissertation analyzes the evolution of the US alliance system in the Middle East, focusing on the 1970s as a pivotal decade in which a coalition of US partners harnessed American power to transform regional order. 

From 2011 to 2012, Carl served in Kabul, Afghanistan, as an adviser to the commander of Combined Joint Interagency Task Force Shafafiyat, the counter-corruption coordinating body for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Previously, he worked as an analyst at the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, D.C., where he published reports on counter-insurgency and Afghan politics.  He is proficient in Farsi and holds a B.A. in history from Yale University.
