Dr. Ionut Popescu received his PhD in Political Science from Duke University in the fall of 2013, with a primary specialization in International Relations and a secondary one in American Politics. Prior to joining Texas State, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin. A scholar of modern American foreign policy and grand strategy, Dr. Popescu is the author of Emergent Strategy and Grand Strategy: How American Presidents Succeed in Foreign Policy (Johns Hopkins University Press, November 2017). His articles appeared in the Journal of Strategic Studies, Contemporary Security Policy, Orbis, Parameters, The Hill, Joint Force Quarterly, Armed Forces Journal and War On The Rocks. His teaching interests include courses on international relations theory, international security, strategy and conflict, and American foreign policy and national security.
