Alayna Parlevliet
Alayna Parlevliet is a senior double majoring in International Relations and Global Studies and Plan II Honors, with a minor in history through the Normandy Scholar Program. Alayna is a Clements Center Undergraduate Fellow, Jefferson Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa member, and a former Archer Fellow. On campus, Alayna has furthered her professional experience by researching for UT’s Clark Center for Australian and New Zealand Studies, the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, and Tearline – a student publication in collaboration with the NGA. Mentorship has been a common theme throughout Alayna’s college experience; this passion has led to her positions as a counselor, tutor, student government leader, and teaching assistant. Driven by her WWII studies as a Normandy Scholar, Alayna has actively pursued a career in national security through her internships at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, and Rhombus Power. Alayna’s emphasis on writing throughout her studies culminated in receiving the Schuchard Undergraduate Archival Research Prize Honorable Mention from the Harry Ransom Center, which is awarded to one underclassman at UT each year with the winning research paper. UT programs such as Summer Beyond Borders in Korea and the Texas Intelligence Academy in DC have been formative to Alayna’s understanding of national security both domestically and abroad.
