Looking back at the 2024 Washington D.C. Undergraduate Trip

Aug 30, 2024

Earlier this month, the Clements Center hosted 20 Undergraduate Fellows in Washington, D.C. to kick off the new academic year. Over three days, our fellows formed connections with their peers, engaged with our D.C. community, and visited significant historical sites.

During their time in the nation’s capital, they had the opportunity to tour Arlington National Cemetery and pay their respects to those who have served our nation. The students visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watched the changing of the guard ceremony. The cohort heard from Clements alumni Megan Reiss and Kelsey Ritchie Frierson about careers in national security and the role of AI and technology, and attended a Nuclear Workshop on nuclear policy, proliferation, and deterrence at John Hopkins SAIS with Dr. Frank Gavin, Director of the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs, and Dr. Jane Vaynman, Assistant Professor of Strategic Studies at SAIS. They ended the trip with a reception at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) where they were joined by Clements Center alumni based in Washington, D.C.
