Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) R. Clayton McVay, U.S. Army

Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) R. Clayton McVay received his commission as an engineer officer from the Virginia Military Institute in 2001. He is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Captain’s Career Course, the Sapper Leader Course, Airborne School, and has completed his Intermediate Level Education.

LTC McVay was previously assigned to the Army Futures Command (AFC) where he served as the Programs Branch Chief responsible for integrating the command within Department of the Army processes – specifically the planning, programming, budget, and execution process. He also served as the staff lead for the AFC commander in his role overseeing and advising Army equipping. Previous assignments include serving on the Headquarters, Department of the Army staff; Brigade Engineer with the 82nd Airborne Division; Department of Transportation Army Fellow in Washington D.C.; assistant mechanical engineering professor at West Point; company commander at Fort Knox, Kentucky; and battalion adjutant, company executive officer, and platoon leader in Germany. Throughout his career, he once deployed to Kosovo in support of peacekeeping operations and twice to Iraq for combat operations.

LTC McVay holds a Master of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in mechanical engineering. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with three OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with one OLC, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Sapper Tab.
