Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Dobson
Lt. Col. Jamie Dobson joins the University of Texas as an Army War College Fellow after completing an assignment across town as the Director of Communications at U.S. Army Futures Command headquartered in Austin. Originally from Virginia, she earned a master’s in mass communications from the University of Georgia in 2003, where she also commissioned into the U.S. Army.
Jamie became an Army public affairs officer in 2009. Prior to joining AFC, she served as the Public Affairs Director for the 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii, from 2021 to 2023. From 2019 to 2021, she was the communication advisor to the Under Secretary of the Army. Her previous assignments also include U.S. Army North, the Joint Staff, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, and the 10th Press Camp Headquarters. She has also served as Psychological Operations and Chemical Officer and has two overseas deployments.
Before joining the Army, Jamie worked as a newspaper reporter in Virginia, first as the sports editor and staff writer for the Eastern Loudoun Times and later as a sports reporter for the Northern Virginia Daily.
She is a graduate of the Chemical Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, the Defense Information School, and the Command and General Staff Officer Course. Jamie holds two master’s degrees in communications and two bachelor’s degrees — one in history and one in political science.
An avid reader, Jamie founded the Army Public Affairs Book Club in July 2020 to help active-duty Army public affairs officers’ network, learn, and strengthen the career field. She is also a mother of twins.
