Colonel Jose A. Reyes

Colonel Jose A. Reyes enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18 and served as an Intelligence Analyst in 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. Later, he attended West Point and was commissioned as a Lieutenant of Armor from the United States Military Academy, Class of 2004.

Colonel Reyes most recently served as the Chief of Staff of the 2nd Infantry / ROK-U.S. Combined Division (2ID/RUCD) at Camp Humphreys, Korea. Previous non-command assignments include service as Acting Squadron Operations Officer, Scout Platoon Leader, and Troop Executive Officer in the 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, which included a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF); Assistant Operations Officer in 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division; Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of the 4th Infantry Division and U.S. Division-North in Iraq as part of Operation New Dawn; Deputy Legislative Assistant in the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; Deputy Division Chief in the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs on the Army Staff; Battalion Operations Officer of 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, where he deployed to Korea in support of the Korea Rotational Forces (KRF); Brigade Operations Officer, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division; Assignment Officer and Armor Branch Executive Officer at U.S. Army Human Resources Command; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations in the 2ID/RUCD.

Colonel Reyes’ command assignments include 25 months as Commander, C Troop, 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO, where he deployed twice to Iraq in support of OIF; and 24 months as Commander, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3d Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Cavazos, Texas, where he again deployed to Korea in support of the KRF. He is slated to take command of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, after completing his U.S. Army War College Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin.

Colonel Reyes’ civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from USMA and a Master of Policy Management degree from Georgetown University. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Maneuver Captains Career Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and Joint Professional Military Education II at the Joint Forces Staff College.

Colonel Reyes’ military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
