Isabel Webb Carey

My name is Isabel Webb Carey; I’m a rising senior majoring in Plan II with an eclectic constellation of interests straddling domestic and international policy. Born and raised in London, I moved to Austin in 2020 for college and have since sought to understand how the interactions between place, power and trade are changing amid climate emergencies and resource scarcity. I had the privilege of studying abroad in Mexico throughout Spring 2023, a country which is increasingly acknowledged as an important arena where these trends are playing out. Witnessing these tensions in-situ counter-balanced the US-centric perspectives I engaged with at Pew Research Center and Bloomberg News. Now, I am thrilled to join the community of scholars at the Clements Center to consider these issues from a perspective of national security.
