Ionut Popescu is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Texas State University.
Ionut served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Clements Center for National Security at UT Austin after receiving his Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University in the fall of 2013. A scholar of modern American foreign policy and grand strategy, Dr. Popescu is the author of Emergent Strategy and Grand Strategy: How American Presidents Succeed in Foreign Policy (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2017). His articles have appeared in the Journal of Strategic Studies, Foreign Policy, The National Interest, Contemporary Security Policy, Orbis, Parameters, The Hill, Joint Force Quarterly, Armed Forces Journal, and War On The Rocks. His teaching interests include courses on international security, strategy and conflict, and American foreign policy and national security.
