On Tuesday, March 2nd, the Clements Center for National Security and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas hosted General David H. Petraeus (US Army, Ret.), Partner with KKR and Chairman of KKR, Global Institute and Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, for a conversation on U.S. foreign policy and security. Paul Edgar, Clements Center Associate Director, moderated. 

On Thursday, February 25, The University of Texas at Austin’s Intelligence Studies Project, Global Internet Media and (Dis)Information (GIMI) Cluster, Clements Center for National Security, and Strauss Center for International Security and Law hosted Nina Jankowicz for a virtual book talk on her recently released book, How to Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News, and the Future of Conflict. The talk was moderated by Dr. Kiril Avramov, Assistant Professor at the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies and associate of the GIMI research initiative for UT-Austin’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. 

On Thursday, February 11, the Clements Center for National Security will host Ray Takeyh, Hasib J. Sabbagh Senior Fellow for Middle East Studies a the Council on Foreign Relations, for a virtual book talk on his upcoming book The Last Shah: America, Iran, and the Fall of the Pahlavi Dynasty. On Wednesday, February 3, the Clements Center for National Security hosted Thomas Schwartz, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of History at Vanderbilt University, for a virtual book talk on his recently published book Henry Kissinger and American Power: A Political Biography. 

On Tuesday, February 2, the Clements Center for National Security, Strauss Center for International Security and Law, and Intelligence Studies Project hosted Markus Garlauskas, Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Asia Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council and Former National Intelligence Officer for North Korea, for a virtual talk on “The North Korea Forecast for 2021: A Former National Intelligence Officer’s View.” 

On Thursday, January 28, the Clements Center for National Security hosted Dan Bumenthal, Director of Asian Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, for a virtual book talk on his recently published book The China Nightmare: The Grand Ambitions of a Decaying State.
