On Thursday, November 20, the Clements Center for National Security and The LBJ Library hosted Former Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan and Former Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, Stanley McChrystal, joined by Admiral Joseph Maguire, Executive Director of the Clements Center for National Security, to discuss his new book On Character: Choices That Define a Life. In a world filled with unprecedented challenges – both global and personal – On Character explores McChrystal’s reflections on the discipline required to live up to our beliefs.
After thirty-four years of service in the US Army, General Stanley McChrystal retired as a four-star general. He was commander of the International Security Assistant Forces in Afghanistan and previously served as commander of the nation’s premier counter-terrorism force, the Joint Special Operations Command. The author of My Share of the Task, Team of Teams, Leaders, and Risk, he lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Annie. He is the founder and CEO of McChrystal Group, a leadership consulting firm that helps enable teams to operate with greater speed and adaptability.
