The Journal of Strategic Studies published an article by Professor Inboden that constructs a taxonomy of the various ways that national security policy-makers attempt to use history. It identifies four types of history: experience, memory, tradition, and study.

This year, the University of Texas at Austin announced the establishment of the William P. Clements Jr. Center for History, Strategy and Statecraft. The Center honors the legacy of former Texas Governor Bill Clements, who served as Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1973-1977.
