The Alcalde, the official publication of the Texas Exes, interviewed Professor William Inboden about his time in the White House and how he came up with the concept of the Clements Center. The article was written to commemorate the official launch of the Center at the gala that took place at UT on Thursday, November 21st.

The Clements Center for History, Strategy and Statecraft hosted its inaugural gala on November 21st, 2013 at the University of Texas. Over 300 friends and guests attended the event to commemorate the launch of the historic center.

Professor Inboden, Executive Director of the Clements Center and curator of the Shadow Govt. blog on ForeignPolicy.com, wrote about the U.S.-French relations in his recent blog post.

The Journal of Strategic Studies published an article by Professor Inboden that constructs a taxonomy of the various ways that national security policy-makers attempt to use history. It identifies four types of history: experience, memory, tradition, and study.

The Clements Center, in partnership with King’s College London, convened its first conference in early-November at the University of Texas at Austin.  Participants from all over the U.S. and U.K. attended the event titled “Diplomacy, Alliances and War: Anglo-American Perspectives on History and Strategy in the September 11th Era.”  

Peter Baker, Chief White House Correspondent for The New York Times, was recently in Austin to promote his new book Days of Fire: Bush and Cheney in the White House and to attend the Clements Center’s annual conference “Diplomacy, Alliances and War: Anglo-American Perspectives on History and Strategy in the September 11th Era.”

Clements Center Post-Doctoral Fellow Steele Brand will offer an undergraduate course in Spring 2014 through UT’s Department of History.

Clements Center Graduate Fellow and UT History PhD student Carl Forsberg recently wrote a piece for the new China Journal at Yale China Hands.

Clements Center graduate fellow Peter Harris was recently featured in the comments section of the Canadian International Council’s website OpenCanada.org.
