Rethinking Cold War Burma

Through research at the National Archives of Myanmar, Ewing found that “as a stalwart defender of neutralism, Burma sat at a crossroads, between the north-south axis of the Cold War and the south-south axis of the Third World.” She argues that the National Archives offer enormous amounts of material for scholars interested in the Third World during the Cold War. Ewing writes, “the dearth in historical scholarship on Burma in the Cold War demonstrates a need for researchers to consider visiting the archives in Yangon.”
