Casey Mahoney is a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Political Science, where he also received his Ph.D. in November 2023. His research focuses on international alliances, emerging technology and military strategy, and other topics in international security. Casey concurrently serves as an adjunct policy researcher at the RAND Corporation.<\/p>\n

In 2021-22, Casey completed a U.S. Institute of Peace-DoD Minerva Peace & Security Scholar dissertation fellowship and\u2014in Summer 2022\u2014worked as an adjunct research associate at the RAND Corporation\u2019s Arroyo Center. Previously, he served as a Nunn-Lugar Fellow at the U.S. Department of Defense, contributing to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Polic<\/a>y) counter-ISIL team as the Jordan Country Director (2015-17) and supporting WMD nonproliferation programs in the Indo-Pacific (2013-15). Casey has held research positions at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory\u00a0in Richland, WA;\u00a0the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization\u00a0in Vienna, Austria;\u00a0and the Center for Nonproliferation Studies\u00a0in Monterey, CA.<\/p>\n

His\u00a0work is published in\u00a0War on the Rocks<\/i>, the\u00a0Washington Post<\/i>\u00a0Monkey Cage Blog,\u00a0Orbis,<\/i>\u00a0The National Interest<\/i>, andThe<\/i>\u00a0Oxford Handbook of Artificial Intelligence Governance<\/i>.
