Inboden reviews Edel’s new book

William Inboden | May 20, 2016

In his review, Inboden applauds Edel’s portrayal of Adams, particularly Edel’s argument that “while other leaders of the incipient United States had already developed policy traditions—such as avoiding the entanglement of alliances and the endless conflicts of Europe or gaining security by expanding on the North American continent—Adams was instrumental in developing these traditions into a coherent grand strategy.”

Charles Edel will be a speaker at the Clements Center’s Summer Seminar in Statecraft and History this year. At the week-long seminar, doctoral students will attend sessions focused on the examination of how policymakers have used or misused historical knowledge in the past and how different scholarly disciplines approach history.
