In her article, Whalen argues that counterintuitively “bombing often strengthens resistance, rather than weakening it.” Looking to history to understand modern techniques, Whalen cites aerial bombardment as the predecessor of drone warfare. She adds, however, that “since 1945, the logic of bombing has been refined, but not fundamentally re-examined.”
