Emily Whalen is pursuing a PhD in History at the University of Texas - Austin. She specializes in US foreign policy in the Middle East, Europe during the late Cold War, and the Lebanese Civil War. She is a consultant for the EastWest Institute and previously worked for the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project. Emily speaks French, Italian, and Levantine Arabic and is currently an Ernest May Fellow Harvard's Belfer Center. Prior to attending UT Austin, Whalen earned her B.A in History from the University of Virginia. She tweets @eiwhalen.
