As part of my responsibilities I helped manage a grant competition for community projects and had the opportunity to interact with ASEAN youth on a daily basis via social media. One of the highlights of the internship was working at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit (4-6 August), which saw the participation of nearly 50 heads of state along with a small army of State Department employees, volunteers, and security personnel. A challenging part of the job was learning to go slow. Even when a task seemed really urgent we still have to act on consensus or make sure all clearances were in.”
