Summer Student Development Fund

Hannah Alberts will be working at the Institute for International and Strategic Studies’ Russia and Eurasia Program in Washington, D.C.  The internship will entail substantive research on the politics and foreign policy of Russia and the states of post-Soviet Eurasia and U.S./E.U. policy toward them. Her primary responsibility will be Russian language research assistance for an upcoming report on U.S.-Russian arms control initiatives.

John Egan will intern at the National Defense Industrial Association in Washington, D.C. NDIA is America’s leading Defense Industry association promoting national security. John will work as their Government Policy intern in a variety of areas such as legislation, regulation, membership, and logistics.

Jacqueline Homann will be an intern with the U.S. State Department’s East Asia-Pacific Bureau, Public Diplomacy Office in Washington, D.C. Jacqueline will focus heavily on writing as she will review and summarize cables from different foreign bureaus and report to officials within the Public Diplomacy Office. She will also participate in meetings regarding the Young Southeast Asia Leaders Initiative.

Mark Jbeily will be interning with the Texas Office of Homeland Security in Austin, TX. He will assist the Strategic Planning Committee in developing the next version of the Texas Homeland Security Strategic Plan for 2015-2020.

Sarah Kaiser-Cross will be spending her summer interning with the Department of State in Manama, Bahrain. Sarah has been assigned to the political section of the embassy and will therefore be working to analyze political developments, issues pertaining to the maintenance of regional balance, and counterterrorism efforts.

Alan Leonard will be an intern with the House Armed Services Committee in Washington, D.C.  As an intern, he will support the production and passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and oversight hearings to address issues of concern in the military and the world.

Ashley Nelle-Davis will be an intern with the Center for European Policy Analysis in Washington, D.C. Under the direction of their experts, she will attend panels and conferences, and will be expected to prepare documents before and after the meetings. 

Jacob Thayer will be interning at the U.S. Coast Guard’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. He will be assisting the new Commandant and senior officers turn the Commandant’s strategic objectives for the future of the Coast Guard into policy. Mr. Thayer will be work with staff to analyze legislation and policies the Coast Guard is implementing and work with those officers to ensure best practices are codified throughout the fleet.

Tawheeda Wahabzada will be an intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Harry Reid in Washington, D.C. Her daily responsibilities will include working on research projects for the national security and foreign policy staff, staffing hearings including Homeland Security and Foreign Relations, and assisting in the preparation for press conference, caucus lunches, and hearings.

Katherine Wilshusen will be a research intern with Development & Training Services Inc. Katherine will work on a project to assess, evaluate and chronicle the last fifteen years of the State Department’s global human rights and democracy funding.
