Mission Inscrutable

CC Faculty Fellow Aaron O'Connell, who teaches military history at UT, wrote an article for Slate about U.S. military operations in Niger. 

Prof. O'Connell writes that "the U.S. military is conducting at least five separate missions in Niger and most of them have different objectives, metrics, and in some cases, different chains of command." He explains the difference between security sector assistance and counterterrorism operations, including the level of involvement from the State Department, Pentagon, and Congress.
