From Now On, Let’s Hold Intelligence Briefings After the Election

Prof. Slick writes that “presidential candidates no longer need, and often do not want, classified intelligence information at this phase in the election cycle. Starting intelligence briefings after the election would serve the same important purpose while mitigating unnecessary risks to our security and democracy.”

In this election cycle, the intelligence briefings became deeply politicized, in Prof. Slick’s view. Furthermore, he continues, “there is also a real danger that sensitive information will be compromised — deliberately or inadvertently — in the course of a chaotic, winner-take-all contest.”
