Evening Conversation with William Inboden (Washington, D.C.)

In this inaugural event, Inboden will examine Niebuhr’s theological development of Christian realism and his early concerns surrounding the emergence of fascist regimes in Germany and Japan. Niebuhr’s powerful arguments had a strong effect on American foreign policy and views of democracy building.

William Inboden is Executive Director of the William P. Clements, Jr. Center for History, Strategy, and Statecraft at the University of Texas-Austin. He also serves as Associate Professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and Distinguished Scholar at the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law.

He is a contributing editor to Foreign Policy magazine, and his commentary has appeared in numerous outlets including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Sky News, and BBC. He has lectured widely in academic and policy settings and is the author ofReligion and American Foreign Policy.

Responding to Inboden will be Ambassador Mark Lagon, Global Politics and Security Chair at Georgetown University’s Master of Foreign Service Program, and Senior Fellow at the Council for Foreign Relations.
